DLSS 4.5 support depends on the feature. Its Super Resolution model supports GeForce RTX cards, including RTX 20 and 30 Series. Native DLSS Frame Generation requires RTX 40 or 50 Series, while Multi Frame Generation and Dynamic MFG are RTX 50 Series features. A compatible card still needs supported software and an appropriate driver.
Do not treat the version number as one switch
DLSS is a family of technologies. Super Resolution reconstructs output from lower-resolution rendering; frame generation adds intermediate displayed frames; Ray Reconstruction addresses ray-tracing denoising. A game can support a selection rather than every capability associated with a marketing generation.
Read the full feature name in the game and current support information. A driver recognizing an RTX card does not imply every DLSS function is available on it. Likewise, the version number of one DLL is not a reliable summary of all models and graphics features active in an application.
Check Super Resolution across RTX generations
NVIDIA states that the DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution models support GeForce RTX GPUs. It also warns that RTX 20 and 30 Series lack native FP8 support, making the newer M and L models more expensive on those cards. Supported therefore does not mean equally fast.
For an older RTX card, compare image quality and frame time against the available earlier model. NVIDIA notes that those users may prefer Model K from DLSS 4 for the balance. Choose based on an actual game test rather than assuming the newest model must provide the highest frame rate.
For the documented reference, see NVIDIA’s DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution rollout and model guidance.
Separate ordinary and multi frame generation
Native DLSS Frame Generation is available on RTX 40 and 50 Series in supported integrations. Multi Frame Generation, including Dynamic MFG and the higher multipliers introduced with DLSS 4.5, requires RTX 50 Series. RTX 20 and 30 Series do not gain native DLSS frame generation by enabling a newer upscaling model.
Laptop and desktop labels still require the exact GPU and software combination to be checked. A mod replacing one frame-generation implementation with another is not evidence of native NVIDIA feature support. Keep alternative technologies and unofficial replacements separate from the hardware matrix.
Check the feature descriptions and hardware scope on NVIDIA’s current DLSS technology page alongside the Super Resolution model guidance.
Verify game integration and NVIDIA app overrides
Some games include newer models directly; supported NVIDIA app overrides can update selected behaviour in compatible integrations. An override is not a universal tool for adding a missing rendering feature to arbitrary software. Check the current profile and available options for the actual game.
The chosen upscaling quality mode and model preset are separate settings. Do not assume a recommended profile forces the same second-generation model for every mode. Driver and app recommendations can change, so record the active preset and compare the result in motion before deciding it improves your configuration.
Evaluate more than the displayed FPS number
A heavier reconstruction model can trade performance for stability or detail. Generated frames can raise the displayed total while leaving the underlying simulation rate much lower. Neither effect is summarized by saying a card supports DLSS 4.5.
Use a repeatable scene and note the resolution, quality mode, active features and driver. Examine motion, thin geometry, transparent effects and interface elements. Check input feel as well as visual smoothness. A useful comparison makes those conditions visible rather than placing unrelated benchmark numbers beside different GPU names.
Buy for the feature and workload you actually need
If your priority is newer Super Resolution, an existing compatible RTX card may already let you evaluate it. If you specifically want Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, the hardware requirement is narrower. Include native performance, memory, power and your games in the purchase decision.
This compatibility summary was checked on 25 October 2026. Revisit the official feature matrix and game notes before purchasing, because models and integrations continue to change. The practical question is whether a named GPU runs a named DLSS feature well in your intended game, not whether the box carries the latest version number.
Frequently asked questions
Can an RTX 3060 use DLSS 4.5?
It supports the newer Super Resolution models, with a potentially heavier cost than on newer hardware. It does not support native DLSS Frame Generation.
Can an RTX 4070 use Dynamic Multi Frame Generation?
No. RTX 40 supports native single-frame DLSS generation, while Dynamic MFG is an RTX 50 feature.
Does GTX support DLSS Super Resolution?
No. Native DLSS Super Resolution requires RTX hardware. NVIDIA Image Scaling and other upscalers have different requirements.
